Saint Gregory the Great, pope and doctor of the Church

Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, pope and doctor of the Church: after having undertaken a monastic life, he carried out the office of apostolic legate at Constantinople; then elected on this day to the Roman See, he settled earthly matters and as a servant of the servants he took care of the sacred ones. He showed himself to be a true pastor in governing the Church, in helping the needy in every way, in fostering monastic life and in consolidating and spreading the faith everywhere, writing famous books on morality and pastoral care for this purpose. He died on March 12.
