Saints Ǧūhštazad of Persia, eunuch, and companions, martyrs of Persia Likewise, the many martyrs are commemorated who, after the death of Saint Simeon, died throughout Persia for the name of Christ, pierced with the sword by order of the same King Sabor II; among these Saint Ǧūhštazad who, as court eunuch and tutor of Sabor himself, suffered martyrdom in the palace of Artaxerxes, brother of Sabor, at the first signs of persecution in the province of Adiabene, in the territory of modern-day Iraq. Blessed Chiara Gambacorti, widow At Pisa, Blessed Chiara Gambacorti, who, while still young, widowed of her husband, at the exhortation of Saint Catherine of Siena, founded the first strictly observant Dominican monastery here and, having pardoned the murderers of her father and her brothers, governed her sisters with prudence and charity.
